What is a name wheel?

A name wheel is a tool used to generate baby names or names for businesses or fictitious characters. While it may sound like some kind of modern technology, the name wheel has actually been around for centuries, first appearing as a form of divination in ancient China. More recently, the name wheel has gained popularity among parents-to-be and fiction writers who need ideas for names.

The concept behind the name wheel is simple: All you need is a list of letters representing the alphabet. For example, A, B, C and so on. You then select a letter from each position in the wheel to form a new "name" as you spin it around. This can be done by hand or by using online game apps designed specifically for generating names using wheels. The goal of using a name wheel is to generate all sorts of permutations of possible names that you may not have come up with originally.

Most name wheels are divided into different sections according to gender (male/female), origin (English/Other language) and themes (nature etc.). Many also offer customization options so you can mix up the letters included in each spin and make sure that your list of potential names remains fresh and interesting with each rotation.

While the name wheel can provide some interesting results when looking for baby or character names, it's important to remember that any final choice should still be one that you believe fits with your vision and/or cultural expectations associated with certain given names.
